12 Step Recovery Program for Men in Asheville, NC

Proven. Effective. Sustainable.

Our Unique Approach

We’ve built a program out of clinically proven methods. We know that what we do works. It’s worked for 100s of young men to date, but that doesn’t mean we take a cookie-cutter approach. On the contrary, we’re big on individual case management.

Responding to the needs of our patients is a major part of what we do. It’s one of the biggest keys to our success. We match you with the right therapies at the right times.

Long-Term Addiction Care

The Support You Need

Sobriety can be more than just running from addiction.

Claiming a better life should be the goal of every recovery program.

Self awareness, personal accountability, and other pillars of the 12 Step system can help with behavior change.  But more than that, they can help young men in recovery find more fulfilled lives.

It’s no wonder that the system has spread from Alcoholics Anonymous to Narcotics Anonymous and onto so many other groups.

Put the 12 Steps into action and start working towards that goal today!

Decades of Success

There is a reason the 12 Steps is one of the most trusted recovery frameworks today.  The two-prong approach of personal growth and community support is a proven path.  If you apply these consistently over time, you're more likely to beat addiction.

12-Steps Immersion

The 12 Steps is more than just a support group—it's a lifestyle. It has helped millions around the world make real recovery sustainable. And we've seen it work right here, at Next Step. Living with your accountability makes your sobriety stick.

How the 12 Steps Help

The path to long-term addiction recovery is well-worn.

The 12 Steps has paved a proven path to let you walk with your peers into honest, lasting sobriety.

At Next Step Recovery, we integrate the 12 Steps and other clinically proven methods into our addiction recovery program.  Everyone’s climb toward a life of value is unique.  But that doesn’t mean you need to reinvent wheel to make it to the mountaintop.  Instead, follow the trail that success leaves.

As we say:

“Recovery is the Real Adventure.”

The 12 Steps help us navigate that adventure.

Addiction should be faced as a lifelong disease.  The 12-step program reframes your condition as one that can only be cared for by deeper change.

The 12 Steps are a multi-phase plan for breaking the cycle of addiction.  Each stage puts you in action to release what you cannot control.  As you move forward, you’ll discover what it means to embrace true help instead of willpower.  Peer support and accountability ensure your success.

Change comes only as a series of smaller, gradual shifts.  Fortunately, the Twelve Steps give you a supportive way to practice major changes in stages.

Each step helps you practice honesty, accountability, and learning from mistakes.  As the role of your willpower shrinks, you shift into a more powerful way of healing.  At its core, 12 Step programs are a team effort.  You’ll unite with recovering men to learn how to thrive in day-to-day sobriety together.

Support groups are central to any recovery plan.  Like any peer program, the 12-steps for addiction comes after getting clean and medically-stable.

Safety of yourself and others comes before any community support treatment.  You are welcome to join once you can safety engage with others and have completed your substance detox.  Our program is specifically outpatient, but inpatient centers may sometimes carry their own 12 step care.

The 12 Steps have often been misunderstood as only for the religious.  The reality: all types of men have used the program with their own meanings.

Despite the spiritual language, you are highly encouraged to decide what a “Higher Power” and “God” mean to you.  You’ll find that modern-day groups are defined by you, not the reverse.  If you’re seeking a better life and will commit to real change, you are welcome to join—no religion required.

Next Step is built upon a groundwork of community and growth. We directly integrate your 12 step journey with a full suite of outpatient recovery services.

As one of the premier substance recovery programs in Asheville, our men are clear evidence that integrated residential care works. Our live-in therapy and 12 step peer support makes honest sobriety part of your daily reality.  When you’re walking with us, we’ll make sure you’re never alone.

What They Say About Us

"Before coming to Next Step Recovery, my life was in tatters. I felt defeated. The first day I arrived at Next Step, I was swinging. I was so angry. I was lost, hurt, and confused. I was living in paralyzing fear; yet, this place, these people, accepted me... They have shown me that a new life is possible. The staff here helps me grow into a better man every day... I owe the person I am today to Next Step's guidance."

J.C., Beloved Client

"I am so grateful for Nextstep and all the staff members. This is definitely the place I needed to come after I got out of treatment. Here I got connected to the recovery community in Asheville and made some good friends here at the houses. Nextstep has not only taught me what I need to do to stay clean but I have learned so many life lessons while I was here. I will stay in contact with Nextstep because this place has given me my life back and for that I am so grateful!"

Z.A., Beloved Resident

"Next Step Recovery was exactly what I needed in the early stages of my recovery! I spent so many years of my life hiding behind a bottle, and I couldn’t take it anymore! Susan and her staff helped me to get back on my feet and start the process moving on and loving life without the use of alcohol or drugs. After my 3 months here with next step, I chose to stay in Asheville and continue to work on my self, with their guidance. I couldn’t imagine my life today if I was still stuck in my old ways, Thank you Next Step Recovery!"

Z.B., Beloved Client

"You may have to leave family, friends and your old life behind as you start recovery. Next Step provides not only a home for you to start over, it gives you a spiritual cleansing. From the staff to my housemates, Next Step has brought a new meaning to recovery. If you let them work with you, you'll find more than a recovery house, you'll find yourself again."

My son completed 3 months of sober living at Next Steps Recovery, surrounded by kind, caring and compassionate staff, with all the skill sets required of true professionals to guide and assist him in living a productive, healthy , sober and happy life. He flourished and started to smile and enjoy life again during those three months. He now is starting to build a career for himself and is enjoying the normal things in life that had been missing for so many years. As a family we have been blessed to have been connected with Next Step Recovery. Thank you.
