IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) treatment is an excellent option for patients that have outside obligations (such as a family to care for), but would still like support along their recovery journey. During IOP, patients learn lifelong skills that help to both get them and keep them sober while managing additional responsibilities.
The Next Step Recovery IOP in Wilmington is a 12-week program that requires the patient to visit the facility 3 to 5 days a week for a few hours at a time. During their time at the facility, our patients receive multiple forms of therapy that work together to create long-lasting sobriety. This includes individual therapy, group therapy, 12-step programs, and more.
Early sobriety is particularly difficult, and many patients find they are unable to stay sober without support. Next Step Recovery provides the support many people require in early sobriety to get their recovery journey started, as well as resources and a community to rely on after their treatment is complete.
For many, imagining a fun and fulfilling life in sobriety seems impossible. At Next Step Recovery, we show our patients that there is a ton of fun and community in developing positive habits. With our Wilderness Adventure Therapy, patients can spend more time outdoors while learning skills that can help them on their long-term recovery journey.
With our Wilderness Adventure Therapy – there is something for everyone. We provide calming and meditative practices like hiking, as well as thrilling and energizing activities like paintball and watersports. The result is positive coping skills and positive activities that can be integrated into any routine.
Some of our Wilderness Adventure Activities include:
12-step programs are an important part of recovery for patients both enrolled in rehab and those that have graduated from our program. The 12 steps allow patients to get to the root of their addiction, work through their resentments, make peace with their past, and accept the world around them. While 12-step programs are built around spirituality, you don’t have to be religious to participate. Patients can choose to accept a non-religious nature of the healing process, and acknowledge they need support to fully heal – we can’t do it on our own!
We find that patients that work the 12-steps can be more open and honest, which helps in the recovery process. 12-step programs also encourage humility, openness, community, and care for others. Those in 12-step programs are encouraged to help each other, keep each other accountable, and spend time getting to know each other.
Whether you are currently a patient at Next Step Recovery in Wilmington or you have graduated from our program, we encourage you to attend 12-step meetings and work the steps. This is a resource for any individual seeking long-term healing and sobriety.
There are a variety of different therapeutic methods that we take advantage of at Next Step Recovery to help our patients to heal and overcome their addiction. Two powerful forms of therapy that we find help our patients significantly are Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). With these forms of therapy, patients can both address pain and discomfort at the moment, as well as remove disruptive patterns that lead to distress. Patients are provided with coping mechanisms that they can use to not only find success in early recovery, but also throughout their entire journey of sobriety.
CBT stands for “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.” CBT allows patients to better understand the harmful thought patterns and behaviors that lead to distress. From there, these thoughts, habits, and behavior patterns can be addressed.
With CBT, patients are encouraged to use logic to identify and address the unhelpful thought patterns that are contributing to their unhappiness. Patients are also taught how to replace these negative thought patterns with helpful, positive thought patterns and habits.
CBT is a proven method that helps patients suffering from:
DBT stands for “Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.” This form of therapy helps with emotional regulation during tough times. With DBT, patients are better able to address distressing emotions when they occur, while also validating and accepting these emotions.
Stress doesn’t stop when treatment begins. DBT gives our patients the tools they need to tolerate these stressors and find peace when times get rough.
With DBT, patients learn about:
Along with spending time outdoors, we encourage our patients to take advantage of the exercise therapy that we offer. Exercise is not only excellent for your body but also for your mind. Along with the physical benefits, exercise has been proven to help individuals destress and approach situations with a clear mind.
Our Exercise Therapy program is multifaceted, and it includes meditation, yoga, martial arts, and more. When enrolled in the IOP program at Next Step Recovery in Wilmington, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to stretch your limbs, practice mindfulness, and have a lot of fun in the process.
At Next Step Recovery, we ensure that our patients have the life skills they need to succeed in long-term recovery. Because of this, we ask that our patients attend class, work, or volunteer at least 30 hours a week. Patients are also required to attend support groups throughout the week to encourage growth and learn new skills.
These responsibilities not only create a sense of purpose but also prepare the patient to learn to balance their sobriety and care with the pressures of the outside world. We give our patients the tools they need to transition back to their daily lives and continue to be successful.
We understand that there are a lot of different treatment programs to choose from in the Wilmington area. While they all have their advantages, we believe that Next Step Recovery is the perfect treatment center to meet your needs.
Some of the things you should consider when choosing the right treatment center include:
