Wilderness Adventure Therapy

Our Wilderness Adventure Therapy not only provides our patients with the opportunity to get some exercise outdoors and connect with nature but develop healthy habits that can lead to positive coping skills!

There is a lot of fun to be had in sobriety, and our Wilderness Adventure Therapy program provides our patients with a variety of different activities that are designed to encourage a state of mindfulness and joy. Patients also learn strength, discipline, and the joy that comes with trying something new.  Some of the fun activities we offer with our Wilderness Adventure

With these activities, patients are able to connect with each other form bonds, and create a strong sense of community and friendship. We encourage our patients to work together to stay accountable and root each other on. This sense of community greatly increases the chances of long-term success. Therapy program include:

12-Step Programs in Winston-Salem

12-step programs offer a variety of advantages for those in addiction recovery. While the setting is generally anonymous, patients find a strong sense of community in 12-step meetings. Those in 12-step groups are encouraged to work together to achieve their common goals of sobriety. This, in turn, leads to the formation of strong, lifelong bonds.

With 12-step programs, patients dive into the root cause of their addiction. From there, they can address the underlying issues that lead them to drink or use. Patients can work through their struggles surrounded by people that care for them and are rooting for their success.

We encourage our patients to join a 12-step program and work the 12-steps both while they are patients at our Next Step Recovery facility in Winston-Salem, and once they’ve graduated from the program for continued healing.

12 step program at Next Step Recovery

At Next Step Recovery in Winston-Salem, we focus strongly on both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Both forms of therapy help patients to get through difficult times and overcome underlying issues that lead to stress, anxiety, and discomfort. The tools learned during DBT and CBT are lifelong, and help patients not only with problems related to sobriety but also in their everyday lives.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) uses logic to address negative thought patterns and behaviors. Patients are taught to recognize these patterns so they can be addressed, removed, and replaced with positive thought patterns and behaviors.

CBT is a proven method that helps patients suffering from:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy helps patients to address difficult feelings and emotions as they occur, while still accepting and validating those feelings and emotions. Patients are better able to manage their thoughts, feelings, and emotions during more difficult times.

There are a lot of stressors and triggers patients experience during the recovery process. DBT helps patients to face stressors and stay resilient during their most difficult moments and provides an excellent resource both for current patients and those that have graduated from the Next Step Recovery treatment program. With DBT, patients learn about:

Exercise Therapy

Exercise is excellent for clearing your mind, stretching your legs, and de-stressing. Our patients find a lot of calm and serenity in exercise. That’s why we offer Exercise Therapy. Our Exercise Therapy program involves the use of intentional exercise that helps with mindfulness, along with physical health. Patients are offered meditation, yoga, and martial arts. All of these forms of therapy provide a sense of mastery and accomplishment—which helps to build the self-esteem of our patients.

The Exercise Therapy program at Next Step Recovery in Winston-Salem is engaging, relaxing, and empowering. Our patients can connect and their bodies—all while focusing on the present moment.

Life Skills

At Next Step Recovery, we ensure that our patients have the life skills they need to succeed in long-term recovery. Because of this, we ask that our patients attend class, work, or volunteer at least 30 hours a week. Patients are also required to attend support groups throughout the week to encourage growth and learn new skills.

These responsibilities not only create a sense of purpose but also prepare the patient to learn to balance their sobriety and care with the pressures of the outside world. We give our patients the tools they need to transition back to their daily lives and continue to be successful.
